Advanced level and scholarship exams to be held as scheduled ensuring the maximum health protection of the children

The Minister of Education said that the opportunities will be given to the students to sit for the Advanced Level and grade five scholarship examinations on the scheduled dates obtaining continuous instructions and full cooperation from the defense, health and all other sections. Accordingly, the grade five scholarship examination will be held on Sunday 11th of October and the Advanced Level examination will be held from Monday 12th of October till 06 of November as scheduled earlier.  

The minister stated these views at a special meeting held at the Government Information Department today (07) for the purpose of reaching a consent with regard to the holding of advanced level and scholarship examinations which are scheduled to be held shortly on the face of spreading covid virus presently in the country.  

This special discussion was held with the participation of a group including The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Pieris, The Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella, The head of the national Covid prevention center Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, the Secretary of Education Professor Kapila C.K. Perera, the Commissioner General of Examinations Sanath Pujitha and the Epidemiologist Specialist Doctor Sudath Samaraweera.    

At this occasion, The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Pieris emphasized that the government has taken this decision taking a great risk of protecting health of all exam candidates and all the others connected with exam duties while not giving any room for collapsing the exam related hopes of children and the parents. Therefore, the full assistance of all stakeholders in the society is expected in order to minimize completely the risk.   

The Secretary of Education Professor Kapila Perera mentioned that a complete program has been designed with the participation of health authorities, transport authorities and the defense section to follow the health protection instructions strictly including the sanitizing the exam centers, wearing the face masks, hand washing and keeping individual distance, establishment of a special exam center reserved for the students currently been quarantined and specially to follow the health protection methods while transporting the students.   

The Education Secretary further stated that the steps have been taken to obtain the personal details of the students sitting for the advanced level and scholarship exams including the recent ill-health conditions of them through a paper issued online in the official web site of the ministry of education shortly and the full cooperation of the parents is expected for providing the relevant information in those papers.
